The truth is, there is not such thing as the best beach in the Riviera Maya, each one of them has its own charm and characteristics. However, here you can find some of the most pretty and popular beaches, so you can visit all or some of them. Do not forget your tower and sunscreen.
Punta Maroma
Punta Maroma is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico and the favorite for couples to spend their honeymoon thanks to the privacy and luxury resorts in the area. This beach is perfect for snorkeling, with clear blue waters and a vast marine diversity. It is also part of the second-biggest reef, so it is not unusual to find different fish on the shore.
If you prefer, you can enjoy all activities that Punta Maroma has to offer without staying in a big resort, you just need to pay an entry fee. This beach is perfect for a day trip since the travel time from the Cancun Airport is about 35 minutes.
Playa del Carmen
Known as the hearth of the Riviera Maya, it is the perfect destination for those who are looking for adventure, get in contact with nature and incredible activities for all ages. Located just 68 kilometers far from Cancun, you can easily get to there with the plenty options of transportation, either you go on your own car or get a private Cancun to Playa del Carmen shuttle.
The beaches in Playa del Carmen are public and easily accessible, so you don’t need to stay in a big resort, but there are also nice boutiques at reasonable prices and with plenty of amenities. Playa is perfect to just spread out your towel and enjoy the sun at one of the beach clubs.
Akumal
Located just 35 minutes far from Playa del Carmen, this is one of the best places to visit in the Mexican Caribbean. Akumal is very famous for being the land of turtles, where you can snorkel or scuba diving along these marine animals, especially in the mornings.
Akumal beach is one of the most peaceful places in the Riviera Maya, with incredible transparent waters and white sand and colorful reef to enjoy your time. On your visit to Akumal do not miss the opportunity to go to the monkey sanctuary where you can meet rescued monkeys and other wild animals.
Playa Paraiso
Playa Paraíso is the most famous sandy beach in Tulum, with waters of different shades of blue and smooth and white sand where you can have a perfect sunbathing. Waters in this beach are not so deep, so it is perfect for families with small children.
To visit this beach you first need to get to Tulum, in case you are coming from Cancun or Playa del Carmen, you can take one of the different shuttle from Cancun to Tulum options. Playa Paraiso is very close to the main tourist attractions in Tulum, about 4 minutes from the archaeological site and 5 minutes from the hotel zone.
